Overall, which product do you prefer and why?

I prefer the cream over the spray. The spray did not perform as well as the cream. While it delivered well on shine, and controlled my frizz to a certain degree, it did not perform as well as the cream. It might have something to do with my dry hair though. I think creams just work better since it conditions my hair a little better than sprays. I also hated the chemicals in the spray. I had to leave the room every time I put it in my hair. The cream had little to no scent and made my hair healthy, shiny and frizz-free. Three things I was looking for going into this project. I’m very happy with the results. I also just want to say I didn’t hate the spray. I just loved the cream so much that that’s all I wanted to use for the last week.

Today, I have declared victory for the cream. The cream deserves an award..perhaps a ring the size of the Super Bowl Champs ring! I absolutely loved it. My hair is softer, healthier, frizz-free, and shiny. I was generous with the amount, but only because I have a lot of hair..Amanda, you will soon see!I’m looking forward to showing you my regimen….thanks so much!p.s. don’t go to Hoboken!!

Week 3 … final lap!

Hi Analiza, Thanks for all your hard work. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday 5th Feb at 7.30. In the meantime, here are the directions for the final elements of the project …. best …. Amanda

For the final week, please use the product you feel works best for you …. or if you prefer, you can experiment with both. And continue to let me know how it’s working for you (as per the original ‘questions to cover in your Blog Journal’).

Aside from this, there are just two things we need to ask you to complete and post:

A. THE COLLAGE

On week three, when you really feel you know both styling products, please take a large piece of paper or poster board and create a collage using pictures from your camera, from the Internet, magazines, etc. that capture your perceptions of the main benefit of the new product (you can focus on either the Styling Spray or Styling Cream – whichever you prefer). Use at least 3 words or phrases and 6 pictures of hairstyles, people, places, brands, objects that reflect your thoughts and emotions of what the new product brings to you, your hair and your lifestyle. Then photograph the collage and upload it onto your Blog. Please have your collage available at the interview at your home next week.

Cream going strong!

I didn’t wash my hair today, but it still looks great. It’s healthy and shiny. I washed it last night and put the cream again. My hair looks just like it did in those pictures from yesterday’s blog. Anyway, that’s all. I just wanted to write a quick update today and say thanks for the great product.

I’m lovin’ it…and it’s better than McDonalds.

haha..dumb joke..but I will say look at how fabulous my hair looks!…healthy, smooth, shiny. I washed my hair and used the cream for the 2nd time, and I really like the way my hair reacts to it. People have commented on how pretty my hair looks..I used about a quarter-sized dollop, which is perfect since my hair is long and thick. The scent is not very strong, so that’s nice. I don’t worry too much about the ingredients in my styling products, but I didn’t like the spray. It was just too strong to bare. I honestly believe this cream is the best product I’ve ever used to control frizz and tame flyaways. My hair looks great..thank you so much.

It’s like McDonalds always says..I’m lovin’ it.

Hi Analiza! Great to know you’re happy with the cream … has it been raining in LA? I can’t believe now much you travel! What styling products do you generally take on your trips? One other thing I wanted to ask you is whether you are concerned with the ingredients of styling products. Do you either look for or try to avoid particular ingredients? I’m so looking forward to your interview on Tuesday 4/5 at 7.30 p.m. Don’t forget that you’ll need to have your collage completed by the time we meet. Best …. Amanda

Cream in the lead!

My hair was not behaving that differently with the spray. The spray was making it shiny, but it didn’t feel as healthy as it does now. I washed my hair, and ran the cream through it. It smells nice. I was generous with the amount of cream. I ran my fingers through it and then combed it. I was in a rush, but I had to dry it before I went outside. I didn’t get a chance to curl it so after I dried it, I just threw it up in a bun, and let my hair sit for a couple of hours. I’m in LA and it’s rainy. My hair didn’t act up or get frizzy!

The first two pictures are before I started using the cream. These are what my hair looks like with the spray. See how it still looks a little dry. The second two pictures are after I used the cream. I had my hair in a bun for a couple of hours. When I got back to my hotel, I pulled out the bun, and snapped the 3rd and 4th pics. Can you see how shiny and healthy it looks? And the frizz is under control (more than with the spray)! Ignore the curl, and all the bumps. That’s just because my hair was in a bun. Once I curl it and style it, it’s going to look great.

So far so good! I’m very excited about my hair, and about this cream. I can already tell you I would use this cream all the time. I love it. I haven’t tried putting it in my hair when it’s dry yet, but I will tonight, and I’m sure it’s going to look awesome.

I’ll write more after I curl and style it. I’ll take another pic and post it later. That’s it for now. I think the cream is going to win this one!

Questionnaire answers part 2

1. Which new product are you using during the second week? Styling Cream

2. How were you feeling about your hair on the day you tried the product for the first time – BEFORE you tried the product? e.g. were you suffering from any problems such as dull, fly-away or frizzy hair, etc.? My hair felt really dry. It wasn’t that frizzy because it had been two days since I had washed it, so when it’s dirty, it’s not as frizzy.

3. What were your expectations for this styling product before you tried it? I was hoping that it made my hair shiny and not as frizzy. I was hoping that it worked a little better than the spray.

4. What time of day and for what occasion are you first using the product? I will be using the product in the morning after I was my hair. I’m in LA now and I’m going to a meeting. I may not have time to curl my hair, so I may have to throw it in a ponytail.

AFTER YOU’VE TRIED THE PRODUCT:

1. Describe your process for washing and styling your hair today, e.g. did you wash and condition it first or did you use it on dry hair? If so, what products were you using? Did you blow dry, air dry or flat iron your hair? Did you use any other setting equipment, such as curlers? I was in a rush, so I washed and conditioned my hair with Gilchrist and Soames shampoo and conditioner from the hotel. I ran the cream through my hair and combed it. I had very little time, so I blow-dryed it very quickly, and through it in a bun.

2. Describe how easy/difficult the product was to use. Very easy. I just ran it through my wet hair.

3. Describe in detail how you felt about your hair after you used the product for the first time (after you finished styling it). How did your hair look and feel? How did it make YOU feel? My hair felt really soft, and healthy. I didn’t have time to curl it, but it felt better than when I had used the spray. I felt confident that my hair wouldn’t be as frizzy, and it’s not.

4. How did it compare with the product you used last week – in terms of texture, experience and outcomes? I love the cream so much more. For one, it’s a cream so I didn’t have that chemical inhalation problem like I did with the spray! I had a feeling I was going to like it better. I just prefer creams or oils over sprays anyway. My hair feels softer and healthier than it did last week. It looks shinier too. I like it much more than the spray already.

5. How do you feel it compares with other products like it? What products/brands would you use this instead of? I would use this instead of my Bed Head oil. In fact, I already threw that away. I feel like I could use it with the Biolage oil together. I used to use mousse a while back. I would definitely use this instead of mousse.

6. Are the results similar, better or not as good as you imagined? The results are better than the spray. I was expecting that because my hair responds better to creams since it’s so dry. I’m very pleased, and I knew I would be.

7. If you weren’t part of this study, how likely would you be to try it again and why? I would try it again. I like experimenting with different products, and finding new ways to make my hair healthier.

Fantastic! Did you see I posted a short questionnaire for the Cream below …. can you start using the second product asap.

I also wanted to set up a time for me to come and do the interview at your apartment. I’m going to watch you style your hair … and talk to you about your process. I’m also going to enjoy looking through all the hair products you have! I’ll take some pictures and record the conversation. It’ll be good fun! I’d like to do w/o February 4 – an evening during the week or daytime weekends would be good (either Sunday the 3rd or the following weekend). Can you please give me some options for dates and times. There is someone else over in Brooklyn and I wanted to coordinate it so I can come to you both on the same day. I know she works some evenings … so perhaps I can go to her one afternoon and meet you back at your place after. Let me have as many options as possible.

You will need to complete your collage before I see you … but don’t start work until you’ve familiarized yourself with both products!
